Our baby girl arrived at 5:59am on January 5th. Soon after I delivered, we moved to the room where we'd stay for her first 2 days of life. Chloe spent her first day sleeping quite a bit. The first day was the hardest for me - I almost passed out in the bathroom! I was also very tired after not sleeping and eating for over 24 hours! I didn't sleep till that night though because I was so excited to be with my baby girl. On the first day, Great-Grandma Chang, Grand-Aunt Rita, Auntie Karen and Uncle Khoa came to visit!
Day 2: What happened to sleeping all the time?
Baby girl was a lot more fussy the second day - she didn't sleep as much and was definitely more hungry and I probably wasn't producing enough to satiate her hunger! A definitely had to break out some baby soothing techniques! Auntie Bao and Uncle James came to visit. We also had our celebration filet mignon dinner - which was actually quite decent for hospital food (though all steaks were cooked well-done!)
Day 3: Our baby girl is named and goes home!
We had to decide on our baby's name before we left the hospital. With the help of a naming expert in Hong Kong, our baby's grandparents chose the Chinese name "Shao Wen". The first character means "to know" or "dawn" and the second character means "Scholar". We thought it was appropriate since our baby was born early in the morning. We chose the English name "Chloe" after a lot of back and forth between a few names!
We left the hospital in the late afternoon.
It was a relief to be home, but it was also a bit crazy as we were trying to figure out how to take care of Chloe without the support of the nurses at CPMC. Chloe was also hungry and my milk hadn't come in yet. As tough as it was, we survived the first night - thank goodness we had help!
Day 4: First full day at home was a bit chaotic!
I don't fully remember this day, other than being worried Chloe was hungry, trying to figure out how to not give her more formula and to get her to feed well and how to just get into somewhat of a routine at home!
Day 5: Went to Chloe's First Doctor's Visit and Lactation Consultation
Chloe had a busy day, but she was very cooperative! We went to her first doctor's visit in the morning. She weighed 6 pounds 2 ounces at this check-up, the same weight as when we were discharged from the hospital.
We also paid a visit to Day One to see a Lactation consultant to try to learn how to make sure Chloe is feed better. At the end of the visit, she weighed 3 ounces more than what she weighed that morning!
Day 6: Getting into somewhat of a rhythm...for now...
A and I felt like we were getting into a better routine - little did we know we weren't even close. Chloe really only ate, pooped, slept. Still trying to figure things out though!
Day 7: Got weighed again today!
Chloe got to go out again today! We weighed her at Day One and she was 6 pounds, 9.5 ounces! only 1 ounce away from her birth weight! Grand Uncle Jim met Chloe for the first time and Great-Grandma Chang came to visit again!
Day 8: Chloe is 1 week old!
This morning, Chloe turned 1 week old! Can't believe she's been in our lives for 1 week already! Today, Auntie Amy, Uncle Eric and Jaclyn came to visit!
